Ravi is a Toronto Criminal lawyer who practices exclusively in criminal law. He is passionate about defending his clients’ rights. Ravi ensures that each of his clients are zealously represented in the criminal justice system. He is a tireless advocate, dedicated to holding every prosecution up to the high standards outlined in the Canadian Charter of Rights and Freedoms.
Ravi discovered his passion for the law while working as a Youth Worker at a small community centre in Downtown Vancouver. This passion pushed Ravi to complete his law degree at the University of Windsor. While in law school, Ravi volunteered his time at Legal Assistance of Windsor, a student legal clinic where he assisted low-income clients with ODSP and OW claims. He advocated for his clients at the Social Benefits Tribunal and the Landlord Tenant Board. This was an invaluable experience that strengthened Ravi's interest in advocating for low-income and disadvantaged clients.
During law school, Ravi developed a passion for advocacy and a strong desire to practice criminal law. Ravi was selected from amongst his peers for a prestigious clerkship with the Supreme Court of the Northwest Territories in Yellowknife. Through this experience Ravi was exposed to high level criminal jury trials for sexual assault, armed robbery and manslaughter. Ravi also gained insight into how judges assess credibility and make findings of fact, which are critical skills for a criminal defence lawyer.
After law school, Ravi successfully completed his articles at Lerners LLP, a busy downtown Toronto civil litigation firm. After being called to the bar in Ontario, Ravi was hired back to that firm and practiced high-end commercial litigation with some of the country’s most distinguished litigators. He assisted on a wide array of cases that included complex fraud claims, professional regulation matters and professional negligence claims.
In 2018, Ravi decided to pursue his passion for criminal law and joined Pyzer Criminal Lawyers as an associate in Criminal Defence. In this capacity, he tenaciously represents clients who are charged with any criminal offence. Ravi firmly believes in the principles of the criminal justice system: the presumption of innocence, the right to a fair trial, and the right to counsel. In his work as a defence lawyer, Ravi works tirelessly to uphold these rights for every client.
Ravi thrives in a fast-paced, high stakes work setting where he can use his drive and keen sense of written and oral advocacy to put together the best possible defence for each client.
Ravi’s care and compassion for each and every one of his clients is evident from the first day he touches the file. He works tirelessly to ensure that his clients’ needs are met, and that no stone is left unturned in their defence. He advocates whole-heartedly and vigorously for his clients, regardless of the charges they are facing.
Philosophy of Practice
Ravi believes that the best defence is preparation. From the day of arrest, right up to the day a matter resolves, Ravi always thinks ahead and prepares for anything that comes up. Criminal proceedings can be unpredictable, so the best way to avoid being caught off guard is to know every file inside and out. This includes understanding the background of every client, doing exhaustive legal research, and gaining intimate familiarity with the evidence.
With every new client, Ravi tries to get as clear a picture as possible about what brought them to his door. Background, present circumstances, and future goals all play an important part in the disposition of criminal charges. As an example, a client may have a background involving substance abuse with successful treatment. In the event that they lapse, they are charged with a related crime, and brought to court. Knowing the client’s mental state at the time of the offence, as well as their future plans to maintain sobriety will be very helpful in reaching a fair resolution of the matter, regardless of whether they intend to plead guilty or make a defence at trial.
When preparing a case, Ravi ensures that he is up to date on all the relevant legal concepts and recent decisions. Using a variety of legal research tools, Ravi attacks legal questions with tenacity and enthusiasm. He enjoys plumbing the depths regarding a point of law until he is satisfied that he understands it fully and can confidently argue it in court.
To ensure that no facet of the case goes unexamined, Ravi uses his attention to detail and organization to process all of the evidence in a file. Pyzer Criminal Lawyers, maintains a paperless office so that our lawyer can access an entire file at a moment’s notice. Using the most current technology, Ravi is able to thoroughly review all disclosure in a case and organize all the materials in the most efficient way.
Ravi feels that Criminal Defence is his true calling. He approaches every case with passion and vigour, fighting for the best results in every situation. Ravi zealously represents his clients’ interests no matter the charges; all the way to trial if needed.
Ravi is a member of the Criminal Lawyers' Association, the South Asian Bar Association and the Ontario Bar Association.
